A Word From the Connollys

Happy Holidays and we would like to welcome you to The Connolly House at the Prairie. Tim and I feel very blessed to share our "dream come true" with each of our visitors and neighbors. We hope that you will leave knowing more about "sustainable building" and perhaps be encouraged to incorporate some of these principles into any building project you may embark upon. I would like to point out some of our favorite features in the home.

First, we are "empty nesters" and designed the home to accommodate our specific needs. Our Texas Hill Country style home has a core dwelling consisting of the great room, master bedroom suite, kitchen and utility. This is where we will live day in and day out. The out buildings are a guest casita and office/studio over the garage. These will be heated and cooled only when being used which will cut down on our energy consumption. We have also installed a 7.7 kw solar system to assist with our daily energy needs. Be sure to see the "Man Cave" which is Tim's workshop that he shares with his hunting pals, our three English Setters and Labrador retriever.

The reclaimed Red Oak flooring is from a 150-year-old cotton gin and the reclaimed ceiling beams in the great room and guest casita are from a 200-year-old barn. The gallery ceiling is constructed of Spruce from Taos, New Mexico in the traditional Santa Fe style.

You will no doubt notice the three giant Blue Agaves around the motor court. These beauties have come to us from South Texas. The waterwise landscaping is designed to conserve water and take a minimum amount of care and the water needs will be met by a 23,000 gallon rainwater collection system. Also, be sure to go outside and see the fledging organic vegetable garden on the West face of the house.

After your visit we hope you will let your holiday spirit guide you in giving a donation to the Faith Refuge for Women. Many do not have the good fortune of building their dream home, or to even have a home, and this future facility run by Faith Mission will offer woman shelter and recovery. They will appreciate any size donation you feel led to give.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new home.

Regards,
Lynn Connolly
